Boliden Rönnskär, Sweden’s only smelter for base metals, accounts for 80 percent of the industry’s carbon dioxide emissions in Västerbotten, Northern Sweden. Now, the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth, through the EU’s Just Transition Fund, is granting Boliden Mineral AB 88 million SEK to accelerate the transition to low-carbon production.
In a pilot project, Svevia will use circular salt for de-icing within the Örnsköldsvik maintenance area this winter. The project aims to evaluate how methods and technical equipment in winter road maintenance need to be developed to replace traditionally imported salt with more locally produced circular salt.
