Blamorama Games is the Impact Maker of the North 2020

The winners in the Venture Cup regional finals are announced. North Sweden Cleantech was event partner and annouced the award winner for Impact Maker 2020, an award that was appointed to the startup company Blamorama Games, run by Ingrid Fridesjö and Maya Umar.

Every year, Venture Cup selects Sweden's most promising startups and business ideas as the cup aims to promote entrepreneurship all over Sweden. Venture Cup starts at a regional level, with competitions divided into four regions in Sweden, and finalized in a national final.

The winner of Impact Maker 2020 in the region North is the Luleå-based startup company Blamorama Games, run by Ingrid Fridesjö and Maya Umar. They have developed the mobile game BUMI: Next stop, Earth!, a mobile game that combines gamification with interactive features focused on creating environmentally conscious players and a global community to share ideas, solve environmental problems and be inspired to new innovations.

In the game, aliens have fled their planet that has been wiped out by environmental degradation and now they will try to help us on earth to not make the same mistake as them. The game is aimed at children to in a fun way to learn about the environment and how our actions affect the planet. The prize sum of SEK 50,000 will Blamorama Games use to develop the next part of the game.

The winner of Impact Maker in region North 2020 has a well thought out business concept with great potential to create change to protect our environment through knowledge building and nudging. The team uses gamification to engage an important target group through entertainment and create the conditions for a sustainable transition.

Our earth is turning into a giant landfill and we battle a huge climate crisis. Reports shows that we only have about 10 years to make a U-turn in climate sustainability if we don't want to significantly worsen the risk of more drought, floods, extreme heat, animal extinction and poverty for hundreds of millions of people. Bumi is our intervention. With our mobile game, we aim to increase interest and educate children and inspire youths (the future decision makers) on how to take care of our planet, why it is so important and to encourage their inventive thinking towards climate friendly solutions.
