Green innovation and technology have put Eurocon in the driver's seat

With a green technology focus and through smart acquisitions of cutting-edge expertise, Eurocon has become a player to be reckoned with. But there are bigger plans for the consulting company - only in 2021 will a major recruitment effort be implemented that includes up to 30 new hires.

- We need to be more people to be part of the boost that is coming and has already started now that Sweden is gradually opening up, says Robert Bylin, vice president.

Eurocon has operations in several industries such as the forest and pulp industry, the mining industry, chemistry and more. The forest and pulp industry is the dominant segment.Their services are linked to all the technical disciplines involved in an investment - from feasibility studies to implementation and maintenance. The service and product portfolio is focused on streamlining and optimizing the customer's existing facilities and processes.

- We have long-term worked with research and innovation, it has been one of the cornerstones since the start in 1990. The owners have been actively involved in RISE Processum and started More Research here in Örnsköldsvik which is now part of RISE, so we have always had great interest in innovation and green knowledge. This means that our engineers can work with pilot plants and test what will be tomorrow's products and factories, says Robert.

Eurocon has grown from the seven founders to today's 270 employees. The offices are located from Kiruna in the north to Karlshamn in the south but with a focus on the coast of Norrland. Three of the founders are still active in the company, which was listed on the stock exchange in 2007 and is traded on the Spotlight Stock Market.

"Great need for green technology development"

Given the investment boom that is taking place in green technology, Eurocon has concluded that more expertise is needed, not least in the northern part of Sweden.

- Yes, the green sustainability side has a future ahead of it and it feels great because it fits our profile. We are right there. Just look at all the exciting things that are going on. Only here in Örnsköldsvik will RISE build a new pilot hall, EcoHelix which will possibly scale up in a large new facility and Liquid Wind which has a world-unique production facility underway together with Övik Energi. Add to that Hybrit and H2 Green Steel in Norrbotten and the need for green technology development is great in the north. In addition, the change in paper and pulp seems to be turning more and more towards the chemistry side to take it further in the value chain, and we are also strong there, says Robert.

Employs to all locations

Eurocon's consulting expertise is greatest in automation, but there is also a broad process knowledge and this applies to both paper, pulp and chemistry. It also has its own mechanical and plant designers.

The customers are well-known large companies such as SCA, Holmen, LKAB, Metsä, Husum, Domsjö and the Södra Group to name a few.

- We have very skilled and experienced consultants, if we get to be part of these new projects that are at the forefront of development, our employees also think it is fun and developing.

How do you see the future?

- Very positive, we will now launch a large recruitment campaign in all locations where we operate. We need to hire a lot of people, 20-30 persons and maybe even more if we find the right skills, to be part of the boost that is coming and has already started now that Sweden has succeeded in opening up. We will be well equipped when the time is right and it can be good to be able to make this investment, says Robert who especially welcomes female engineers.

- A more equal workplace that has greater diversity is something we work actively with, Robert adds.
