Innovations from Northern Sweden: A Key Part of the Green Transition
In a world facing a necessary transition, innovation plays a crucial role. Northern Sweden has established itself as an important player in the green transition, which became evident at Germany’s largest energy trade fair, E-World Energy & Water in Essen. North Sweden Cleantech was present to highlight the region’s innovative entrepreneurs and their solutions for a more sustainable future.
Three companies from Northern Sweden—Absolicon, Algorithm Energy, and Enduce—exhibited in the Swedish Energy Pavilion. Organized by the Swedish Energy Agency, the German-Swedish Chamber of Commerce, and Business Sweden, the pavilion served as a platform to showcase Swedish innovation and technology to an international audience.
"We had a long list of questions and goals ahead of the fair, and with great support from the Swedish delegation, we have received answers and made connections that even exceeded our expectations," said Henrik Hagman, founder of Enduce.
There was significant interest in the Swedish companies, and Algorithm Energy shared their solutions with visitors.
Innovation and Collaboration
During the pavilion’s opening ceremony, Katarina Szécsi Åsbrink, Counsellor for Communication, Business, and Culture at the Swedish Embassy in Berlin, emphasized the importance of collaboration in tackling global challenges and highlighted the role of Swedish innovations and companies in sustainable development.

North Sweden Cleantech took the stage during the session "North Sweden – Innovation in Action," where exhibiting companies from Northern Sweden—Absolicon, Algorithm Energy, Enduce, and Umeå Energi—presented their innovations and projects.
Nils Nyström from Algorithm Energy, Henrik Hagman from Enduce and Joakim Byström from Absolicon took the stage.
Absolicon showcased its solar collectors for industrial processes, already installed in Greece and Italy, which reduce fossil fuel consumption. Algorithm Energy presented its technology for optimizing wind power through data analysis. Enduce introduced its energy-efficient wastewater solution for showers, which is already certified and on the market, while also seeking partners in Germany. Umeå Energi presented its work on Umeå Eco Industrial Park, where sewage sludge, waste, and greenhouse gases are used for energy recovery and circular economy initiatives.
E-World Energy & Water also highlighted the key trends in the energy industry.
"The transition to more sustainable energy solutions is a top priority for Umeå Energi. The E-World trade fair offers an excellent opportunity to observe industry trends and gain valuable insights into the key themes shaping the energy sector. This knowledge is essential for our continued efforts toward more sustainable and climate-friendly energy solutions", said Mårten Henriksson, Business Area Manager for Energy Solutions at Umeå Energi.

Challenges and Future Prospects
Despite the many innovative solutions developed in Northern Sweden, companies face several obstacles. Regulations are often not adapted for new technologies, making implementation difficult. Additionally, high risks make securing investments challenging, and a lack of skilled professionals poses another hurdle.
However, progress is moving in the right direction. Success stories such as Absolicon’s installations in Southern Europe and Enduce’s market-ready product demonstrate that small steps lead to significant advancements. With continued collaboration and innovation, Northern Sweden can play a vital role in the global energy transition.
