The winner of this year's Cleantech Profile is Jonas Ranggård from Boliden Minerals! He was appointed by an unanimous jury during Cleantech Meetup in Umeå on May 10.
It was a surprised and happy Jonas Ranggård who recieved flowers, diploma and a check during Cleantech Meetup. The prize consists, in addition to honour, of a scholarship of SEK20 000 to be used for competence-enhancing activities such as travel, education, conferences for example.
-It is incredibly honorable and gratifying to receive this award. I would like to extend a special thanks to North Sweden Cleantech and my fantastic colleagues at Boliden who made this possible, said Jonas Ranggård.
The motivation was: the Cleantech Profile 2022 is a person who, for many years, has been committed to driving sustainable development in various industries. At his current position, the Cleantech Profile of the Year is working on concrete climate measures with the goal of reducing CO2 intensity by 40% by 2030. The Cleantech Profile is a project manager within electrification of his industry and also moves outside the company's facilities, which means that he works to influence the entire industry's green transformation.
A Lot Going On
Jonas says that many years of work close to suppliers and partners are now beginning to bear fruit.Among other things, they have been granted 66.8 million from the Swedish Energy Agency for the investment in an electrified mine in Rävliden and funding from Vinnova to develop electrified underground transport and next week they will commission the world's heaviest electric truck for public transport in collaboration with Scania.All part of the company's efforts to reduce its CO2 intensity by 40% by 2030.
- To be involved early in testing electric operation for heavy transports and contribute to development and conversion to sustainable solutions is in line with our agenda, said Jonas.
Boliden Minerals is the industry leader in the Nordic region when it comes to sustainable metal production, from discoveries to recycling of used metal.Their vision is to be the most climate-friendly and respected metal producer in the world.The company electrifies the mines to reduce climate impact through less emissions to air and water, lower heat generation and less noise.The leach plant in Rönnskär has a technology that has been developed to extract metal from its own residual materials and at the same time the amount of landfill waste is reduced by 80%.In addition, Boliden has been listed as the only base and precious metal company on the Financial Times' list of Climate Leaders in Europe.
The criteria for nominating a person as the Cleantech Profile of the Year is that it must be a person who has engaged and positioned himself or his company in an exemplary manner in green technology, clean energy or sustainable solutions in northern Sweden.This is the fifth year that the award has been presented.
