Umeå’s LunaLEC, one of the Nordic regions 25 best cleantech startups in 2016
At the fifth annual Nordic Cleantech Open, which attracted more than 113 clean tech firms, LunaLEC from Västebotten was selected by the jury as one of the Nordic region’s 25 best cleantech startups.
An international jury consisting of more than 50 influential representatives from multinational companies and risk capital funds were involved in choosing the 25 best companies. The jury included representatives from the Windsail Capital Group (USA), Shanghai Electric (Kina), Saudi Aramco Energy Ventures (Saudi Arabia), Bilfinger Venture Capital, (Germany), Environmental Technologies Fund (Great Britain), Veolia (France), Capricorn Cleantech Fund (Belgium), Dow Chemicals (Switzerland), VNT Management (Finland), Industrifonden (Sweden), Grundfos (Denmark) and many others.
LunaLEC develops thin, flexible light panels which consume less energy during manufacturing and will be made without metals. That way they can be recycled as plastic after they have been used. Ultimately, they could be used for general lighting but initially they are designed as functional lighting. Typical areas of use can include healthcare where light panels can be used in the treatment of a number of symptoms such as jaundice in newborn babies.
